Rocky Point Bird Observatory

Rocky Point Bird Observatory

Club interests: We are a registered charitable organization that promotes avian conservation through monitoring bird populations, research and public education.  As a member of the Canadian Migration Monitoring Network (CMMN), we collect migration data through annual bird-banding programs for hummingbirds, songbirds and owls.  Additional projects assess the health and population dynamics of breeding landbirds, and record the movements of seabirds along the Strait of Juan de Fuca throughout the year.

Public outreach events include K-12 school programs, guided bird walks, banding station visits and Victoria Bird Week.  Visit our website to learn more about these and other public events!

Since 1994, more than 20,000 birds of 92 species have been banded at the observatory. A remarkable 283 species have been recorded at the site.

Meetings: Board meetings are held monthly

Membership fee: $20 for individuals, $25 for families, annually

Number of members: more than 500
