Bob Dyer
Bob Dyer, 1933 – 2024
Bob Dyer and his wife, Louise, were members of Nature Vancouver, joining in 1996. Bob regularly attended the monthly Birders’ Nights and he also served on Nature Vancouver’s Finance Committee for several years.
Bob became a member of BC Naturalists’ Foundation in 2002 and a Director in 2003. He served as vice-president and then president of the BC Naturalists’ Foundation from 2009 through 2011. Throughout his decade of service on the foundation Board, he managed its investments. When his term as president was near ending and as the Foundation’s capital had increased considerably, he recommended that the Foundation’s capital funds be managed by a professional investment manager at Odlum Brown. This change to professional management was a wise choice and continues still. In addition, Bob wrote the Foundation’s Investment Goals and Policies, which were approved by the Foundation’s board in October 2012.
His family’s description in his obituary (https://www.dignitymemorial.com/en-ca/obituaries/west-vancouver-bc/william-dyer-11941447) includes:
Together, Bob and Louise built our beloved cabin on DeCourcy Island. For many years this cabin has offered a place for family to gather and sun ourselves on the rocks in the summer and cozy up by the fire in the winter for the over thirty years of Christmas by candlelight that we all cherish. After the cabin was constructed, Bob continued to pursue his passion for building and carpentry by establishing systems for off-grid life, including a composting septic system and a solar electrical setup. He masterfully built much of the furniture at the cabin and beautiful kayaks that will continue to carry us on adventures with memories of him.
